ALT-R HEROES Film Festival 2024
Celebrating the 15th anniversary of Altarejos cinema with "ALT-R Heroes'' in 2022, 2076KOLEKTIB, together with the UPFI Film Center and GagaOOLala, is now excited to present the ALT-R HEROES Film Festival 2024. This film festival showcases the earlier and the new works of filmmaker Joselito Altarejos, and works from emerging and talented filmmakers.
Selected short films that showcase alternative or alternate heroes will be curated spanning across different styles – whether they are narratives telling a story, experimental pieces pushing boundaries, or documentaries capturing reality. The short film competitions will have two sections. The New Visions Section is dedicated to the filmmakers whose works have clearly translated their visions, while the New Horizon films are films about gender from emerging filmmakers.
The festival will award three (3) Prizes : The 2076Kolektib Prize, Balangaw Prize, The ALT-R HEROES Prize.
This event is organized by the 2076KOLEKTIB, and leading the charge is the festival director, filmmaker Jay Altarejos. 2076KOLEKTIB, with its predecessor BEYONDtheBOX, has been creating films by Jay Altarejos for the last 16 years. Jay Altarejos is an accomplished filmmaker, and also an advocate for gender and human rights. He has done 18 films to date since he started filmmaking in 2007 with years of directing for television for a decade prior.
Notable films in our collection include Walang Kasarian ang Digmang Bayan, Memories of Forgetting, Tale of the Lost Boys, Jino to Marī, Unfriend, Kasal, and Ang Lihim ni Antonio.
Other members of 2076KOLEKTIB are filmmakers Manuel Garcellano, Marco Bertillo-Mata and actor Oliver Aquino. Manuel is a documentary filmmaker, cinematographer and correspondent for alternative media, while Marco is a filmmaker, cinematographer and an educator; and Oliver is an actor known for Kasal, Jino to Marī and Walang Kasarian ang Digmang Bayan.
The hub of the festival is the UPFI Film Center where premiere screenings, master classes, and talkbacks will happen on February 16, 19 & 20. While online screenings will be through GagaOOLala. GagaOOLala is the global LGBTQ+ and BL streaming platform and the major sponsor of the ALT-R HEROES 2024.
